SAB Appoints Mauricio Leyva Managing Director of Beer Division
22 October 2012The South African Breweries (SAB) announced today that Mauricio Leyva has been appointed Managing Director of SAB’s Beer Division, effective 7 January 2013.
Leyva succeeds Norman Adami, who remains in his role as Chairman of SAB, with responsibility for SAB’s Beer Division, the soft drinks company of Amalgamated Beverages Industries, and Appletiser SA.
Leyva is currently President and CEO of Backus & Johnson, SABMiller’s operating unit in Peru. Prior to that, he held several key leadership positions in SABMiller’s Latin American operations, including serving as the president of the company’s beer and soft drinks business in Honduras, and as the vice president heading Bavaria’s sales and marketing functions in Colombia.
“Mauricio is one of SABMiller’s best operators worldwide, and his skills, leadership and track record make him a great choice to carry forward our strategy here in South Africa,” said Adami.
Prior to joining Bavaria in 2005, Leyva worked in senior commercial roles at Avianca, Colombia’s leading airline, and at COMCEL, Colombia’s leading telecom. He began his career with McKinsey & Co in Germany, and has earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Universidad d Los Andes, and a specialization degree in international management from the University de Nancy – Grande Ecole in France.
“Mauricio’s appointment reflects the ongoing development of SABMiller as a truly global developer of strong executive leadership,” said Adami.
