Tholoana Enterprise Fund

The Tholoana Enterprise Fund (TEF) aims to provide small-scale grassroots support for small enterprises, co-ops, micro-businesses and other ventures which invest in entrepreneurial development and provide income generation and employment.

 

The focus of the TEF is on small, rural, women-owned and/or youth-owned enterprises, as well as on enterprises owned by and/or employing persons with disabilities. All businesses applying for funding should be black-owned* and managed, and operational. The Tholoana Enterprise Fund offers three levels of funding. 

 

MBEU

‘Mbeu’ is a tshiVenda word meaning ‘seed’

The ‘Mbeu’ package offers seed capital for businesses that are in the start-up or early development phase. The business needs to be operational, and less than 2 years old. The owner(s) of the business need to be involved in the day to day running of the business. ‘Mbeu’ package funding ranges from R50,000 to R100,000.

 

TSHIMELA

‘Tshimela is a tshiVenda word meaning ‘seedling’

The ‘Tshimela’ package offers seed capital for registered businesses in the start-up or early development phase. Only businesses registered with the CIPC [Close Corporation, Co-op or Pty (Ltd)] need to apply for ‘Tshimela’ funding. The business needs to be operational, and less than 2 years old. The owner(s) of the business need to be involved in the day to day running of the business. ’Tshimela’ package funding ranges from R100,000 to R150,000.

 

MURI

‘Muri’ is a tshiVenda word meaning ‘tree’

The ‘Muri’ package offers seed capital for registered businesses in the early development or growth phase. Only business registered with the CIPC [Close Corporation, Co-op or Pty (Ltd)] need to apply for ‘Muri’ funding. The business needs to be operational for at least six months, and less than 3 years old. The business also needs to be compliant with tax laws and any other applicable regulations (eg Companies Act). The owner(s) of the business need to be involved in the day to day running of the business. ‘Muri’ package funding ranges from R150,000 to R250,000.
