SAB and Uber ensure responsibility remains a headline act at Chasing Sunsets festivals

Every year, the April holidays see an unfortunate increase in South Africans driving under the influence of alcohol. Following a successful festive season, the South African Breweries (SAB) is once again partnering with Uber at its Corona Chasing Sunsets events by covering the costs of trips booked through the Uber App to all ticket holders.

Taking place on 3 April in Johannesburg and 9 April in Cape Town, the Corona Chasing Sunsets events are among the most anticipated music festivals on the calendar, sporting a lineup of South Africa’s hottest artists with an outdoor show that brings friends, music, and the ultimate sunset together in glorious harmony.

“We are always excited to bring South Africans together in celebration of life and appreciation of art,” says Sphe Vundla, SAB Corporate Brand Director. “It is also our proud duty to encourage responsibility at our events. Therefore, organisations like Uber are such important partners.”

SAB has made sure that every ticket holder for a Corona Sunset event will receive a voucher offering them R100 off two trips requested via the Uber App to the selected events.  This voucher, which is subject to certain terms and conditions, will be sent to ticket holders along with their ticket information. This was done at previous Corona Chasing Sunset events in December 2021, which was met with praise from ticket holders.

Head of mobility operations for Uber Sub Saharan Africa, Kagiso Khaole says, “At Uber, we aspire to be an active participant in the eradication of drunk driving in South Africa. This partnership with SAB forms part of our unwavering commitment to providing a seamless travel experience, where safety is a top priority. We call on those eligible for this offer to make a conscious choice so they can get home to their loved ones.”

Vundla says this partnership with Uber falls in line with SAB’s ‘none for the road’ philosophy.

“We continue to advocate for responsibility and through the partnership with Uber, we further continue championing this essential duty. We have always believed that one should never drive after drinking. Not even after one beer. Every experience with our beer should be a positive one.”
