The South African Breweries opened entries for the “SAB Sports Media Awards 2013” via its online entry and judging portal today.

The entry portal, used for the first time last year, has been upgraded to allow online judging to take place for the first time.

“We were impressed with the system last year and we had positive feedback from our entrants which was encouraging, ” says Robyn Chalmers, SAB Head of Media and Communications.

“This year, we decided to upgrade the portal to allow judges to score online whereas in the past they used a manual process. Both these systems are audited by Grant Thornton to ensure all processes are adhered to.”

The SAB Sports Media Awards names winners in Print, New Media & Online, Television, Radio & Photography categories, but also includes “Hall of Fame” and “Sports Personality of the Year” awards. Both these awards can be motivated and nominated online by sports journalists and editors.

“We have a long standing relationship with sport, and issues surrounding sport are never far from the news. With the trials, triumphs and tribulations over the past year, we look forward to another great year of entries, ” says Chalmers.

NOTE TO EDITORS:

Entrants for the SAB Sports Media Awards 2013 are asked to submit work produced between 1st September 2012 and 3oth September 2013.
Entries open at 8am on Monday, 2^nd September 2013 and close at 5pm on Friday, 4^th October 2013.
Winners and runners-up will be announced at an awards ceremony on Wednesday night, 13^th November 2013 at the Wanderers Club.
Each major category has a cash prize of R25, 000 with each sub-category winner receiving a cheque for R3, 000.
