As one of the world’s largest brewers, SABMiller has been growing its operations for over a century. We’ve been brewing beer since 1895, which makes us the oldest brewery in South Africa.

While SABMiller today produces more than 200 beers in over 80 countries, it started off with one great beer.

Two years later we became the first industrial company to list on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. By 1955 we were one of the three largest brewers in South Africa.

In 1999 we moved our primary listing from Johannesburg to London. Soon after this we listed on the London Stock Exchange.

We started our hop farming operations in George back in the 1930’s and have been breeding our own cultivars specially adapted to the local climate. The SA hop industry is the only one in the world to be successful at low latitudes.

Along the way we invested in the local barley industry. This began in 1911 supplying local farmers with seed and contracting to buy the crop at market prices.
