Tackling Underage Drinking

As a leading alcoholic beverage company in South Africa, SAB takes responsible drinking and the fight against alcohol abuse very seriously and has initiated several programmes to address aspects of the issue.

You Decide

You Decide is an outreach programme developed in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and provincial Departments of Education.

It encompasses a series of interactive initiatives aimed at teens, but with strong links to parents, peers, teachers, liquor traders and the community. Its main component is a roadshow that has visited over 512 000 teenagers in over 963 schools since its launch in 2012.

Future Leaders

Future Leaders is a reality TV show which aims to identify and develop young leaders while engaging the public and creating awareness around the problem of underage drinking in South Africa.

The show follows the lives of five South African teenagers who have previously experimented with alcohol, documenting their journey to becoming agents of change within their communities and role models to their peers. After a successful first season the second is set to air on SABC 1 in late 2014.

The 18+ Campaign

The 18+ Campaign encourages adults to play a more active role in their communities by taking a stand against underage drinking.

The initiative aims to drive education amongst adults on the topic of underage drinking and its dangers and consequences.
