Investment Launch

SAB has invested R2.8 billion in expansions at Alrode and Rosslyn breweries, which include returnable glass packaging lines, and a new brewhouse at Rosslyn Brewery.

The investment will not only make both these lines more efficient, but it will also help create jobs, and contribute to a sustainable future through recycling.

Find out more about our investment below.

First, both breweries are receiving brand new packaging lines that work with returnable glass. These packaging lines will be able to churn out 45,000 bottles an hour! The added capacity will increase our production by 400 million litres a year.

Housing these machines requires around 4500 square meters of space, which in turn will create 400 construction jobs. In addition, four million new plastic crates and 48-million locally produced new returnable glass bottles have been ordered by SAB.

Next up, a state-of-the-art brewhouse has been installed at Rosslyn, which is capable of producing 14 different brews of 75,000 litres each, per day. The brewhouse will be operational in the first half of 2018.

Lastly, a new greenfield malting plant has been installed at Alrode Brewery, expanding malting capacity from 110,000 to 150,000 tonnes of malt per year. This means our malt is almost completely manufactured in South Africa, creating 28 more jobs alone!

SAB is committed to a sustainable South Africa by creating jobs and opportunities for individuals and businesses alike.
