Shakas Head and SAB

A new basketball and tennis court combined with an upliftment programme brings hope to the community of Shaka’s Head, KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal.

SAB was recently involved with the construction of a brand new combined basketball and tennis court for the youth of Shaka’s Head, KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal. The community has a high rate of unemployment, crime and poverty, and this facility will play a significant role in getting the youth off of the streets, to focus their energies on productive pastimes.

Together with LOTS (Life Orientiation Through Sport) and Footy, a sports club in the Ballito area, this project will be bringing hope of a brighter future to many of the disadvantaged youth in the community.

The LOTS Footy Academy has enrolled more than 80 youth up to the age of 17, who will be utilising the court every day.

KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mtembu, applauded SAB’s contribution to the community. He and Ward Councilor, Jetro Banda also urged the community to look after the facility and use it to its full potential.

The academy is not only geared towards sport but also teaches valuable lessons around education and life skills, nurturing the younger generation into becoming tomorrow’s leaders. The academy has also trained two full-time coaches from the Shaka’s Head community. Staff at the academy are on an ongoing programme to up-skill, undergoing regular training, monitoring and mentorship.

Many important life lessons, values and good habits are learnt through participation in sports. It is a privilege to be able to assist in affording youth the opportunity to benefit from the personal development that it brings.
